Surah Al-Anbya — Ayah 65 (21:65)
English translation (Saheeh International)
Then they reversed themselves,1 [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak!"
- - After first admitting their error, they were seized by pride and obstinacy.
Brief commentary
They then returned to their stubbornness and denial, saying, “O Abraham! You know, surely, that these idols cannot speak, so how can you then tell us to ask them?” They intended it to be an evidence in their favour, but it became an evidence against them.
