An-Nawawi’s collection is the classical starting point, and it is short enough to actually finish. Ummah treats it the way it treats the Qur’an: practice, states, and revision that brings each one back before it slips.
Practice, not reading
Each hadith can be hidden a piece at a time so you recall rather than recognise, and every one carries a hifdh state so you can see at a glance which of the forty are solid and which need another pass. They enter the same revision queue as your Qur’an pages.
